Off to Korea for Dittofest!
Michael leaves for Korea tonight to play at Dittofest, in Seoul, as well as other concerts across the peninsula with Ensemble Ditto. Pieces to be played include the Bach 2nd and 6th Cello Suites, the Mendelssohn c minor piano trio, George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae, and Bach’s Goldberg Variations, arranged for string trio by Dmitry Sitkovetsky. Michael joins UConn Music Faculty
Michael is excited to begin teaching at the University of Connecticut-Storrs this upcoming fall. Prospective students are urged to inquire at www.music.uconn.edu.
Sofia Gubaidulina Concert review
Michael was again in the New York Times this week, where he was cited as offering a “striking performance” of Gubaidulina’s 1989 String Trio, which he performed with fellow “excellent musicians” David Bowlin and Maiya Papach. Read the review here.

Conducting Debut
Michael recently conducted five amazing musicians (Tony Arnold, Rolf Schulte, Fred Sherry, Steve Taylor, and Charles Neidich) before a packed crowd in a performance of Elliott Carter’s Tempo e Tempi at the downtown new music venue Le poisson rouge. The New York Times review can be found here.
Schönberg Verklärte Nacht recording
Michael is recording Schoenberg’s seminal piece Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) for string sextet in New York over the holidays with five other amazing musicians: Leila Josefowicz and David Chan on violin, Paul Neubauer and Yura Lee on viola, and Fred Sherry on cello. The piece will be released on the Naxos label.
Music of Olga Neuwirth at Miller Theatre
Michael is performing the music of Olga Neuwirth with ICE at Miller Theatre in New York on December 6, 2012, as part of Miller’s Composer Portraits series.

Chamber Music at the New York Yacht Club
Michael will be playing the Dvorak “American” String Quartet and the Chausson Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet in a concert at the New York Yacht Club on December 2, 2012. He will be performing with Mira Wang, Adam Neiman, Charles Yang, Guillaume Pirard, and Max Mandel. Click here for more details.
